The National Artisan Moderation Body (NAMB) is a statutory unit under South Africa’s Department of Higher Education and Training, established to ensure the quality and standardization of artisan training and certification nationwide. Its core responsibilities include monitoring accredited trade test centres, moderating trade tests, managing a national database of registered assessors and moderators, and maintaining assessment instruments. NAMB also oversees the recording of artisan achievements, handles appeals on assessment outcomes, and recommends successful candidates for certification to the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO). Through these functions, NAMB upholds the integrity and credibility of the artisan qualification system, helping to develop a skilled workforce aligned with industry demands.

Accreditations

The Manufacturing, Engineering, and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA) is one of South Africa’s 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), established to promote skills development in the manufacturing, engineering, and related services sectors. Having merSETA accreditation means that an organization or training provider has met stringent quality standards to deliver education and training programs aligned with industry needs. This accreditation ensures that learners receive credible, industry-relevant qualifications and that the training provider contributes to workforce development and economic growth in South Africa.

The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) is a South African regulatory body responsible for developing, quality-assuring, and overseeing occupational qualifications and standards to ensure they meet industry needs and contribute to the country's economic development. Having QCTO accreditation means that an institution or training provider has met stringent quality criteria, demonstrating their ability to deliver programs that equip learners with the skills and knowledge required for specific occupations. This accreditation assures learners and employers that the qualifications offered are credible, industry-relevant, and aligned with national standards, fostering confidence in the education and training system.
